Blood, the Last Vampire

Post  Aphrodite on Sat Sep 26, 2009 2:18 pm

On the surface, Saya is a stunning 16-year-old, but that youthful exterior hides the tormented soul of a 400-year-old "halfling." Born to a human father and a vampire mother, she has for centuries been a loner obsessed with using her samurai skills to rid the world of vampires, all the while knowing that she herself can survive only on blood like those she hunts. When she is sent onto an American military base in Tokyo by the clandestine organization she works for, Saya immediately senses that this may be her opportunity to finally destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires. Using her superhman strength and her sword, she begins to rid the base of its evil infestation in a series of spectacular and elaborate showdowns. However, it is not until she forms her first human friendship in centuries with the young daughter of the base's general that Saya learns of her greatest power over Onigen may well be her ability for human connection... [D-MAn2010]

What The IMDB Plot Should Have Been:

Saya, a half-human, half-vampire samurai who preys on those who feast on human blood, ventures to an American military base, where she encounters Onigen, the deadliest vampire of all.

What a load of shite!

I have never watched such a waste of a transfer from anime to film. I was really looking forward to watching this, as the Japanese animated film was awesomely done.

It was the first time in a long time that I actually turned off the movie half way through.

Terrible special effects, Westernized from top to toe and dialogue that made me yelp and wince.

Such a shame. No

I tread the anime-to-live-action movie-waters quite warily. Laughing Then again, I thought Blood the animation was kinda boring (bought the DVD on a whim). pale

I think comedy/serious anime are the best choices for live-action adaptations though. But Casshern is a pretty good special-effects type of movie.

I think BTLV anime was fab - the quality of the animation was lurrrrvely. I saw the UK premiere of it as well at the Dead by Dawn Horror film festival.

Believe me Danny the movie remake is by far the worst I have seen.

Sad

Ah I forgot to mention the one I saw was Blood the animated movie and not the TV series, which I heard was really good. I guess that sort of condensing from TV to movie really plagues a few titles, like X The Movie (even though I also own this, lol), which I heard pales compared to the original TV series.

Off on a tangent though, I need to see Battle Royale the movie sometime. Razz

Don't bother with the sequel though. Very Happy

I was highly dissapointed in that Live Action movie, Personally I was a bit skeptical about Blood, The Last Vampire, But I gave it a shot and caved in, worked well, From there I watched the Anime series Blood + and happened to be lenient to like that more-so. Haji is <3

I have only seen the Blood anime movie. I am not big on anime really, unless there is some kind of juicy horror undertone.

I thought the (anime) movie version had a wonderful atmosphere about it. Dang, I am tempted to go an watch it now. No....I must go and sleep.

The Anime is fairly long, Running at about 50 or so episodes. It follows the same prefix. Only a little more differently. It doesn't have the darker tone that the movie had. Saya's more of an affectionate Anti-hero-in-training in the series. She isn't as gritty as she was in that movie. But I still enjoyed the Show nonetheless. It had a lot of controversy, Plot twists. Romance and well..Blood Wink

I might just look it up then. 50 eps - not sure when I can dream of finding the time to watch 50 eps, but I am sure when the baby is born I will have the twilight hours. lol!

LOL! so true. There's a couple of sites I know that have the episodes up. I loved the characters. I loved the plot twists and as I noted. Haji is one of my favorite memorable characters.
